Parent Wellness Workshops
The Autism Healthcare Collaborative is committed to helping the entire family unit through programs that address the psychosocial needs of individuals with autism, their parents and their siblings.
Researchers found that autism moms have stress hormone levels similar to that of combat soldiers. Autism is a lifelong disorder and parents of children with autism often live under ongoing physical and mental distress.
Raising a medically complex child with autism has unavoidable challenges complicated by a severe shortage of doctors trained to recognize the co-occurring medical conditions of autism. These medical conditions exacerbate the symptoms of autism, decreasing effectiveness of educational and therapeutic interventions, crippling families financially, and often destroying family units.
The Autism Healthcare Collaborative helps to address the psychosocial needs of families through our wellness workshops and psychosocial conferences.
Resources for Parents
The Optimal Life Wellness for Parents video series was developed by Richard Gange and Chara Rodriguera and is designed to help parents adapt more healthful ways to take care of their own emotional and physical well- being. These workshops help to reduce stress to ensure parents are fully present to care for their loved one with special needs.
